can the 5V on USB-6210 be connected directly to one of the digital input lines?

Just wondering if the 5V line could be connected directly into one of the digital lines?

I want to know when a switch is closed, so was thinking of 5V from the USB-6210 card to ones side and then into the digital input line. or will it require a load resistor?

Typical practice is to use a pull up resistor to the 5V line, 4700 ohms should do well. See page 87 of the manual below for details:
