Error with HP34401A driver

I get the following error when using the HP34401A Getting Started.vi:

Error -1073807339 occurred at VISA Write

Possible reason(s):

VISA:  (Hex 0xBFFF0015) Timeout expired before operation completed.

The serial port appears to be configured correctly but I get no comms with the device.  I am using LABView 7.0 - does this come with the correct VISA version?  The help mentions VISA 2.0 but I'm not sure what version of the VISA driver I have installed.  What should I download to correct this if it's a problem?

You posted this to the incorrect forum. This board is for NI DMMs. In the future, you should post similar questions to the Instrument Control board.

If you are sure the com settings of the instrument match the com settings of the VI, I would recomend you check the cable. I believe you need a null modem cable. Then, try running Hyperterminal and seeing if you can communicate.

You can get the version of VISA by opening up MAX (Measurement & Automation Explorer) and expanding the software listing. If you want, or need to upgrade, go to http://www.ni.com/support/ and click the Drivers and Updates link.
