I am a 2nd year electronics and communication engineering student. I was earlier using a MASTECH 8264 as my go-to DMM however it died due to a high voltage spike while measuring voltage of a basic voltage multiplier circuit at around 400v. Upon opening and inspecting it I found ZERO input protection and that scared me a little. Especially since it had cat III 1kV and cat IV 600 v protection printed on the case.
I need the DMM to be atleast CAT III 600v rated and have input protection for both high voltage and current (fuses and MOVs)
I'll be using it for lab and project work as well as some light electrical work.

What is your budget?

I own two Fluke 27, one yellow with CAT III rating and one older brown without rating.. well, both rated to 1kV
and measures easely voltages up to 1.5 kV 😉
These old bricks are hard to break. (Ab)use them for more than 10a now.
