Did you mean:

The MAX application can't detect any instruments in the system.

I just bought the NI-DMM board.  I tried to use the NI-DMM Soft Front Panel, but it did not detect any NI-DMM instruments in the system.  The National Instruments Measurements & Automation Explorer (MAX) application also did not detect any instruments on my computer.  I thought it supposes to detect the DMM automatically.  Any body has any idea?  What do I have to do?

Wayne,

If you have the NI-DMM driver fully installed, then it should be detected automatically.  Are you working with a PCI DMM or a  PXI DMM?  Which model are you using (4060, 407x)?

Check in Windows Device to see if the device is recognized there.
- If it is not recognized in Device Manager, then try to reseat the card in its PCI/PXI slot, or switch slots.  Windows will not be able to assign the proper driver if the card is not visible in the system.
- If it is recognized in Device Magager, then right click on the device and choose "Update Driver..." and have Windows search for the appropriate driver (NI-DMM).  If Windows says that it can't find the appropriate driver for the device, then I would recommend uninstalling and reinstalling the NI-DMM driver.

Let me know if this helps.  Good luck!

Travis,

I am using the PCI NI-DMM 4070.  I have reseated the board and switch to different slot, but it still could not be recognized in the Device Manager.

Thanks,

Wayne

Wayne,

If Device Manager can't see the board at all (you don't see a yellow question mark or anything), then it sounds like there is a hardware problem either with the PCI Bus on your computer, or the PCI DMM itself.  Can you try putting the DMM in another computer to see if Device Manager will recognize it there?  Even if you don't have any of the drivers installed, Device Manager should still recognize that there is a PCI device present in the system.

Thanks,

Travis,

I have put it on the other computer, but the device Manager can't detect it either.  I think I have the bad DMM board.  I'll return it for repair.

Thanks,
Wayne

I also have a PCI-4070 DMM with a PCI-6023e DAQ controller.  The Daq controller works fine, however the DMM card can not find an appropriate windows driver.  I have installed and repaired NI DMM 2.8 and have the latest NI-DAQmx 8.6.1fo .  On one side of the DMM board I have 2 green lights and one red.  On the other side I have a green.  What file should the windows XP system be looking for?  Where?  Thanks, Jeff
