关于pcie的数据传输问题........

Dear friends

我用硬件卡通过PCIe与PC通信,现在有一个问题搞不懂就是:

PCIe数据是以帧的形式传输,帧头和帧尾之间是要传输的数据,我在硬件卡内设置只接收含有一个字节数据的帧,也就是帧头和帧尾之间的数据是一个字节硬件卡才处理,其它的帧一概不处理.
我满以为这样的传输会失败,但事实恰好相反!
我想请问的是,操作系统或驱动程序是怎样知道知道我底层的硬件只能接收一个字节的呢?

（我相应的寄存器设置的是最大能接受最大512个字节）
