Hi,

May I know where to download the PCI-8215 manual.

The resource link printed in the following product info page was not correct.

Hi Jon,
Unfortunately, there is not a user manual for this device.  There is no official documentation for it since it is intended to be used with NI-Device.  The data sheet is the only direct documentation on this board and does provide the information needed to use the card.  NI-Device documentation also includes information on this GPIB board and NI-Device Plus ships with USB and Ethernet examples as well.
The incorrect manual link has been noted and will be taken care of soon.  Sorry for the confusion!

If you have any others questions about the PCI-8215, please let me know!
Have a great day!

Hi Chris,

Thank you for the reply.

I have purchased a piece of PCI-8215 card and also received the NI-Device DDK Standard version 1.6 CD-Rom from my local NI site.

I would like to use NI-Device to develop a non-controller GPIB driver for use in the PCI-8215 based instrument.

My target system OS is Windows XP. In the NI-Device DDK CD, There are documents and examples for building the NI-Device driver for Linus and VxWord but lack of MS Windows OS. I did a search on the NI web site and found very limited resource on NI-Device development.

Wonder is there any sort of documents or sample codes on how to get started with developing PCI-8215 GPIB driver for MS Windows OS (e.g. create an Win32 OS Layers and Make file to build and Ni-device device).

Notice that there are rows of soldering pads at the back of the PCI-8215 card, wonder what the functions are and how I can make use of it. May be a reference schematic of the PCI-8215 could help if it is available.

Any help or tips would be very much appreciated.

Best Regards,

Jon.H

Hi Jon,

Unfortunately, it looks like you have the wrong NI-Device.  Click here for the data sheet explaining each one.  NI-Device DDK is only for non-Windows operating systems.  This explains the absence of Windows documentation.  NI-Device and NI-Device Plus (non-DDK) are for Windows.  Please contact your sales representative to see what you can do to swap them out.  If you have any trouble contacting your sales rep, just let me know and I will have somebody contact you about it.

Please let me know if you have any questions!

Hi Chris,

Manage to get the correct NI-Device Standard 1.5 for Windows from my local sale office.

SInce I do not have the Visual C++ 6.0 in hand, tried using Visual Studio 2005 C++ complier to compile the example GpibDevice project, but was encountered the follow error during the linking phase:

nidsgpib.lib(CNiDeviceSpyAutoLogger.obj) : error LNK2019: unresolved external symbol "__declspec(dllimport) public: char const * __thiscall type_info::name(void)const " (__imp_?name@type_info@@QBEPBDXZ) referenced in function "protected: char const * __thiscall CNiDeviceSpyAutoLogger::_GetDerivedClassName(class C4882Device const *)" (?_GetDerivedClassName@CNiDeviceSpyAutoLogger@@IAEPBDPBVC4882Device@@@Z)

.\Debug/GpibDevice.exe : fatal error LNK1120: 1 unresolved externals

Do not know whether the problem is on NI-Device with Visual Studio 2005 or the library files. Is it possible to use for NI-Device with Visual Studio 2005 C++ for compiling? If the problem is on the library files, any updated files available for download?

Thanks.

Best Regards,

Jon.H

Hi Jon,
For some reason I did not get your e-mail today.  Did you get a response from another Applications Engineer?  If not, try submitting your question again at www.ni.com/support make sure to select GPIB as your hardware.  Please mention my name and that same service number (817961) again.

Thanks and sorry for the trouble!

Hi Chris,

In my email I did mention your name and the service number. So far no response from other NI Application Engineer yet.

I have resent the email to the NI Technical support group but didn’t receive any auto confirmation e-mail from NI. No sure what went wrong?

Best Regards,

Jon.H
