Will NI-9222 or NI-9223 work with PCB IEPE (ICP) sensor?

Greetings,

I have an application where i need to use PCB ICP pressure sensors (Model: 102B) that have the following specs

Measurement Range: 5kpsi

Sensitivity: 1.0mV/psi (hence output signal +/-5VDC)

Excitation Voltage: 20 to 30VDC

Constant Current Excitation: 2 to 20mA

Output Bias Voltage: 8 to 14VDC

We need cRIO platform because of rugged environment. Now i know that cRIO9234 would be good choice, however there are two showstoppers.

1- I must use exernal excitation source from PCB for higher current (7 to 10mA) because of 170ft cable length and to overcome cable capacitance. For this reason i can not use cRIO9234 because it has fixed in 2mA current excitation

2- Secondly my frequency of interest is 20 to 35KHz so again 9234 will not cut it.

Question is can i use 9222 (500KS/s/ch) or 9223 (1MS/s/ch) modules for this application or will i miss something by not using 9234?

Also having SAR (Successive Approximation) ADC versus delta sigam ADC makes problems in readings? NI doesnt clearly say 9222 o 9223 are meant for ICP pressure or accelerometers, therefore i am a little concerned.

Kindly share your input experiences.

actually the module you should consider is the 9232

https://www.ni.com/en-us/shop/model/ni-9232.html

It has 41kHz bandwidth when sampling at 102.4kSA/sec.  It is 24bits, and offers 4ma of power per channel.

you will see with a 5V P-P signal from the sensor, 4ma gives you about 35kHz bandwidth at just under 200 feet of cabling.  Lower P-P signals go farther.

If you desire 10ma (I do not think you need it), you can use a low cost PXI chassis with the 4462 module which offers 10ma of excitation.

Hope this helps.

Thanks. preston can you post a correct article link?

Also 3 module module will not work considering the number of channels we need and 8 slot cRIO chassis we have. Will 9222 and 9223 will not work?

Sorry about that - here is the article
