Introduction
LFEdit is SoftwareKey's "License File Editing" program and is provided as part of the Protection PLUS package. This program allows you to create product definitions that store information about each product and then create license files from them for distribution.
Steps to Complete
- Launch the LFEdit program from the Desktop or from the Start Menu under the SoftwareKey Licensing System entry.
- Select Setup... from the Product Definition menu.
- Click the Add button to create a new product definition.
- Enter the name of the product and a description in the General tab.
- Switch to the License File tab and browse to a convenient location for the license file. We suggest naming the file with the .lf extension rather than the default .ini extension.
- Switch to the EZTrial tab. If you wish to implement hardware binding (license file is bound to the computer number) make sure the Enhanced Algorithms option is selected.
- In most test cases, uncheck the Software Binding (Aliases) option. This option creates alias licenses in the registry and system directory. These can be frustrating when you're trying to test licenses because even if you change the physical license file, the contents will be overwritten by the aliases.
- In most test cases, check the Unlimited option for the Times to Run field.
- Make a note of the password from the License File tab if you are going to run through the library licensing process.
Additional Notes
To successfully complete this tutorial, you will need a full license for Protection PLUS.
