[FRC 2010] How Can I Restore my Classmate to it's Original Settings?

Please note that the content contained in this document is out-of-date for the current competition season. Please feel free to use it as a reference moving forward.

Problem:

I need to restore my classmate to it's original settings.

Solution:

In the Kit of Parts (KOP) you should have been given a USB Thumb Drive known as the "USB Restoration Key". This thumb drive contains all the files to restore your classmate to it's original state.

WARNING: This Process Will Erase All of Your Information AND Files off of The Classmate.

  1. With the Classmate powered OFF, insert the bootable USB Key into an available USB port.  Do NOT use a USB hub, instead, plug the Key directly into the Classmate.
  2. Power on the Classmate and when you see the 2Go PC screen, press F11 once.  A small window will appear entitled 'Please Select Boot Device'.
  3. Using the cursor keys, select the USB Key.  It will likely be the second item in the list, beginning with USB:xxxx, where xxxx is the name of the brand and type of USB Key. (For Example, USB: SanDisk U3 Cruzer Micro 8.0). Do NOT select the USB:Generic device, this is not your USB Key. If two identical looking USB items show up, don’t worry this is correct.
  4. Once you've selected the first of the two USB Devices, press Enter. Allow the Classmate to boot from the USB Key. You will now be at x:\windows\system32>wpeinit. Be patient, it can take a minute or more for wpeinit to finish.
  5. When the restoration options screen loads you will be presented with 6 options.
    1. Prepare your internal drive <only>
    2. Restore the image onto your internal drive <only>
    3. Prepare AND Restore
    4. Exit to Command Prompt
    5. Exit and Reboot
    6. Exit and Shutdown.
  6. To do a clean restore, it is recommended to select Option 3: Prepare AND Restore. Type 3 and press Enter.
  7. You will be prompted to choose ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ to format your classmate. Type Y and press Enter. Be patient, the format process will take around 30 minutes to complete.
  8. When you see the message ‘Full Classmate Restoration Complete’ press Enter to return to the list of restoration options.
  9. Type 5 and press Enter to reboot the classmate.
  10. Install the LabVIEW update.
  11. Install the Driver Station update.
