Problems installing FRC LabVIEW 2013

Hi all,

I appreciate this question has been asked a number of times in various forms, but I'm still having issues even after having read most of these discussions. I am installing the 2013 FRC LabVIEW on a 64bit Windows 7 machine.

Last week I installed the 2012 version prior to the 2013 version being released. This was a fresh install on newly imaged Windows 7 machine. I don't recall if I had any issues with this install and I never got a chance to use it (holidays got in the way).

Yesterday, I started to install the 2013 version, as per the Getting Started instructions. I uninstalled 2013 as per the instructions and I additionally removed the NI program files directory. I then proceeded with the install. During the install I got errors. What I see is, towards the end of the install, eight components are installed. At the end of each component being installed, I get an error dialog indicating that the install failed but it lets me proceed to the next install. When I get the report at the end of the install, I had a list of components which it did NOT install. At first I assumed that they were the components associated to the error and I also assumed that they were actually installed successfully (because I have seen this same issue with previous installs). I did later wonder if the components didn't install because they detected previously installed components from the 2012 install?

Anyway, I then installed the updates as per the Getting Started instructions. I have NOT updated LabVIEW using its update tool at this stage.

I was able to runup LabVIEW. When I created a robot project, it failed because it wasn't able to find some component. The missing component has been identified in other threads, all of which point to a faulty install or the updates installed in the incorrect order. Another thread mentioned Reparing the install, instead of re-installing.

This is what I did. I repaired all components i.e. I selected all components and clicked Repair. This updates a few hundred components then returns with a dialog with a further list of things to repair. I continued untill this list was empty.

Now I am able to create the robot project, however, LabVIEW is again asking me to register a number (6-8 I think) of components. The serial number in the Getting Started guide doesn't work. I think I know what is wrong but I don't know how to fix it. My understanding is that the FRC version of LabVIEW combines all the products under a single license key. It appears, the Repair has broken this somehow. I applied the three updates again hoping this might fix it, but it did not.

My question is, how to I repair LabVIEW so that it can register using the single key?

Thanks in advance, Matt.

Hey Matt,

If you open up the NI License Manager how many components do you see listed under LabVIEW 2012?  If the FRC license installed correctly you should just see one called FIRST Robotics Competition.

When I open NI License Manager, I see listed under "Local Licenses":

  - LabVIEW 2012

  - Vision Development Module 2012

I assume that this means the update i did broke my license? What should I do to repair the license?

I expanded everything in NI License Manager and found that there is a "First Robotics Competition" license (I assume that is what it is). It looks like it is happy until 15th Jan 2014. It looks like it is the other components which are complaining. I have attached some pictures of what I am seeing.

Can anyone help me repair my license if that's what is required?

Hey Matt,

The first thing I think we should try is to navigate to:C:\ProgramData\National Instruments\License Manager\Licenses

There are two licenses with FRC in the name. Zip any other licenses up and move them to another location and then restart LabVIEW.

I only found the one file with FRC in the name, so I zipped up all the files, deleted the files and moved the zip. Now my directory looks like this:

Directory of c:\ProgramData\National Instruments\License Manager\Licenses

01/18/2013  07:26 AM    <DIR>          .

01/18/2013  07:26 AM    <DIR>          ..

01/14/2013  09:39 PM    <DIR>          Backup

01/15/2013  07:46 AM               695 LabVIEW_FRC_PKG_120000.lic

               1 File(s)            695 bytes

When I run LabVIEW now, i get the following license status dialog:

LabVIEW License Status 2.jpg

Is this what you were expecting? What should I do next?

Thanks for the help so far

No this isn't what I was hoping for. What do you see if you open NI License Manager now?  Can you deactivate and then reactivate the FRC License?

If I right click on the First Robotics Competition the only option I have is to "Activate". Have I missed something here...

I'm going to go ahead and active the license. I assume that this is what i'm supposed to do?
