Using the Driver Station software on another computer

We have installed the software on two cRIO systems and updated the Classmate and all work well.

I develop the LabVIEW programs on my laptop and have it connected to one of the ports on the router for downloading the programs to the cRIO

This works well.

The Classmate is running wireless to the cRIO through the router.

I'm very happy.

My question is:  Can I run the Classmate program on my laptop so that we can have two "total systems"?

If so, can you direct me to some instructions on how to run the Classmate software on my laptop?

Thanks,

Mike

Hi Mike,

When you run the mandatory software updates, the full Driver Station is installed, so once you run the mandatory update on your laptop, you will have the full driver station installed. This is how we support here at NI as well (on our desktop computers rather than the classmate), and it's been working well so far.

Please let me know if you have any additional questions, and have a great day!

Best Regards,

~Nate

I have looked on my laptop and find no reference to the Driver Station program.

I have installed the LabVIEW updates on the Classmate and my laptop.

I only installed the Classmate updates on the Classmate and ran the cRIO download.

Where do I find the program to execute on my laptop?

Thanks

Mike

Hi Mike,

You should have:

C:\Program Files\FRC Driver Stations

C:\Program Files\FRC Dashboard

If you have installed the mandatory driverstation update on your laptop. You need to run this in addition to the LV update to get the Driver Station correctly working.

Please let me know if you've run both mandatory updates on your laptop and you are still seeing this issue.

Best Regards,

~Nate

I think what you call the classmate update is a misnomer. There is a driver station update that gets installed on the classmate. The driver station udpdate is a self contained installer that can be installed on any computer to let you run the driver station software. http://www.usfirst.org/roboticsprograms/frc/content.aspx?id=10934

Is there a way to save the setup parameters (e.g. Team Number) when running DS on another computer? I couldn't find a file like the "FRC DS Data Storage.ini" file that is specified for the Classmate.

Thanks,

Mark

For the 2011 software, the file is in the <public documents>/FRC folder.

We have been using a new laptop as a Driver Station.  It works fine  except it does not remember the team number.  I looked for the FRC DS  Data Storage.ini file and it is not present on the computer.  I already  tried copying the file from the classmate, and it still will not  remember the team number.  Does anyone know how to direct the software to create or use that file?  We are running a dell laptop with Windows 7  Home premium 64bit.

Thanks!  I found the <public documents>/FRC Folder.  I uninstalled/reinstalled the Driver Station software but still end up with only the file "FRC_IO.v2.hex" in that directory.  I then copied the DS Data Storage.ini file from our Classmate setup into that directory.  The other laptop Driver Station still does not use or remember the Team Number.  My Driver Station is version 01.05.11.00 and running on XP.  Our classmate doesn't have any problems.  Could it be an issue with XP?
