HI folks I'm trying to get the NI 8486 to communicate with the computer and I put
a sensor which couples the signal onto the bus to the NI 8486 unit.
I could see the Port 0 in Interface Utility but whenever I run the Communication Manager I get stuck
on this " Initializing Board 0, Port 0 [USB] ... " step...
I'm not getting much sensible response from NI's support so just want to check if anyone has some suggestions
on this situation?? I'd be grateful. Thanks

Hi,
Could you please tell me the Software Environment you are using?
Like the version of the NI-FBUS software, which operating system.
If you need more detailed technical supports regarding the NI-FBUS products, you could always get to the support email addressof fieldbus.support@ni.com.
Thanks.

The interface Configuration Utility is 4.1 . So is the Configurator. So I suppose the Communication manager is also 4.1.
The evaluation version of NIFB Monitor is 4.0, although I don't think I'll need to use it.
Running on Win XP professional version 2002 service pack 3.
ps. I haven't been able to activate the Configurator yet. I keep getting error message when i try to activate on the NI website.
But for now I first need to get over this Communication Manager problem

Have you done this test yet?
1. Disconnect all the device off the USB-8486 first.
2. Have the USB-8486 connect to your PC.
3. Run CM to see whether any hang happens?
We will check whether the error is related to the device or not.
Thanks.

Yes. when i disconnect the sensor/ FB transmitter it does get through the 'initializing' step
but on the next step of "Configuring NIFB commu manager" , a NI FBus process startup: fatal error
window pops up. but I guess I expect that since we're not connecting anything to the 8486 unit now.
So what do you suggest I do to get through to my sensor/ transmitter??
I downloaded the DD infos for it and imported the DD files but doesn't change anything. I think there must be
something else to be done..

I suppose I have replied you through the fieldbus.support@ni.com.
Please modify the default Address for the USB-8486 interface.
Do you have any updates?
Thanks.

I've changed it to 0x10 and it worked. There's no problem with Communication Manager now.
Thank you

Great to hear that.
Have fun with the NI-FBUS Software journey.
