Announcing the NI Discussion Forums Upgrade

My recent updates:

I've been pushing the blank keyword search issue as I know it's used a lot.  I'll keep you updated.  Keep in mind that Lithium uses some other search technology under the hood, they don't develop it themselves.   The new search interface will include new ways to filter results and a mechanism for sorting results.

About the post and cancel buttons - I expect the location of it to change soon, it will move up above the attachments section just under the editor window.

Finally, I will be out of the office next week so you will not see replies from me here.  If you have something urgent to report, make sure to use the Report to Moderator function and someone on my team will respond.  If it's not urgent, please continue to post in this thread.

Thanks,

Laura

Oh not again. I am just now getting used to move the mouse to the post button without staring at the attachment section

Updates:

The location of the post button is now right under the editor so you won't have to scroll as much to see it.

Coming soon:

The color of the folders on the main page will change to yellow giving the page a bit more color.  The folders will not change based on whether or not the board has unread messages, but the bolding of the board name will still indicate unread messages.

All URLs in the subscription emails will automatically log you into the forums.

Thanks,

Laura

Laura,

I set the Community to Mark all Post as Read. whch cleared all the post as expected but as you can see from the picture the folder icon is still showing as having post.

Hi Ray -

We don't have the ability to dynamically change the icon depending on whether or not there are unread messages but the board names should still show up as bold when there are new messages.  I did have the folder icons changed to have some color so that the page wasn't quite so bland.

Thanks,

Laura

Hi Laura,

Now I am confused, didn't the old system change the folder icon from closed to open depending on whether there were new posts.

Since the Boards do this how is it that the Top Level can not do this.

As it is at the moment it pretty useless, it was better just having a closed folder icon and changing the colour.

Update: The look of the Kudos button in the Idea Exchanges has changed so that you can more easily tell which ideas you've given Kudos to.

The macro drop down in Firefox is fixed.

I'll be out of the office through Thursday next week.  Again, please report any urgent issues using the "Report to Moderator" function and a member of my team will assist you.

Regards,

Laura

Yes, it's better (almost as noticeable the distinction between the two was pre-upgrade).The normal boards still lack distinction between Has Kudos/Has No Kudos/I Have Kudoed. Why not use the same Kudos button for both the Idea Exchange and the normal boards? This would provide a more coherent, fluid user experience, and it would require less initial/maintenance cost from the Lithium Developers...

...two principles that seemingly violate their modus operandi.

Didn't mean to take Laura's positive comments and turn them negative... thank you Laura and team for the improvements, you do a good job. It's just irksome to be a software developer myself, sitting in my chair as a forum end-user speculating how bugfix/feature priorities stack up for this forum's development.
