Archiving Ideas - Feedback Requested

My Reinventing the wheel was targetted at the 'feature request handling', not at the platform.

My latest post on "Eliminate Typedef Explosion on Block Diagram" points that Idea out as being a perfect candidate for archiving, so I have requested Kudos be disabled and the Idea Status be changed. I'll copy a little snippet from that comment:

"I would also like the Idea Status of this Idea be changed from "New" to something along the lines of "Evolved into something better", or "Superseded", or "Supplanted", or "Displaced"...."

Also, notified moderator of a few posts that ought to be marked as Duplicate. Just trying to reinvigorate the movement to organize the 1k+ post Idea Exchange. Smiley Happy

I noticed today some new categories on the Idea Exchange:

New

Considering

In Development

In Beta

Not Enough Kudos

Declined

Duplicate

Completed

Cool! :thumbup1:

One category we lack is the "Already Implemented" - Ideas that are requested that are already slated in the current release phase - such as Inlined SubVI's - and those that have existed for a long time - like Swap Inputs. (yeah, that's my bad Smiley Very Happy )

Another useful delineation is when the solution was delivered. The "Completed" category could be granularized by timeline such as "Delivered LV2009", "Delivered LV2010". If the Idea Exchange is to remain for years to come, it will be neat clicking through the years and seeing what was released.

Spoiler
Oh yeah, the Not Enough Kudos category - what's that? I though BA already made a cozy home for those lonely orphans Smiley Sad

Hi Jack,

Thanks for noticing the new statuses.  We'll be making a post after Thankgiving about how we plan to use the statuses and get initial feedback.  I apologize that this has taken so long but hopefully we'll be getting the new process in place soon!

Regards,

Laura

Re: The new statuses.

This idea is Declined on the grounds that "Functionality already in LabVIEW."

This idea is Completed on the grounds that "This feature already exists in LabVIEW"

Tim....That's my bad. I am starting to go through and get some statuses assigned to these ideas and I messed up on a few. Completed should be an area for ideas that are proposed on the Idea Exchange, R&D likes them and starts developing them, and then they actually make it into the product. I should be pushing all the the ones that are already in LabVIEW or are CARs to declined and just make sure that the comments reflect this. I will be changing the ones in Comlpeted that don't meet this criteria today. Thanks for the heads up!

Grant - thanks for all the hard work (you're a crazy man on a spree)! This is going to help the IdEx organization a lot. There may be some technical/organizational issues with the suggestion, but you might consider getting Laura to create a few new Labels that further granularize Completed/Declined, and so forth.

Jack,

We just had a meeting about this very thing this morning. We are trying to flesh everything out before anything new is added but I definitely appreciate the feedback.
