Did you mean:

Congratulations Dennis Knutson!

Congrats Dennis.

I think the best compliments come from NI staff saying they actually learned from you...

By the way can you remind me how to convert a binary number to an hex number?

Jean-Pierre,

I actually created a VI that does this conversion. You can use it for free if you want.

The true subtleties of your code are of course only visible if execution highlighting is turned on. 🙂

Another implementation of this highly sophisticated function, but with a truly impossible diagram...
Find how to draw bended wires and loops and you can win one of JP lost stars... 😄

When I grow up, I want to be just like Dennis. 😉

Numbers don't tell the whole story, it's the quality of the answers that count. I know for a fact that I've learned more about LabVIEW by reading the forums than from any of the classes I've taken, and a lot of the most useful things have come from Dennis.

Thanks for all your contributions.

Using the Abort button to stop your VI is like using a tree to stop your car. It works, but there may be consequences.

Personally, I don't think this is such a big deal. I'm positive I can overtake Dennis no later than 2065, '66 at most. Game on...
Seriously though, to say what I think of the big D and his knowledge, I will have to resort to quotes, like Mike Myers - "We are not worthy...", or maybe Asimov "sane and rational, fearless and intrepid, witty and forceful, and, above all, devilishly handsome...". Although by now I'm starting to be a bit concerned by the fact that I'm giving Dennis free quotes which should rightfully be mine and can never be used again, so I'll justify them by quoting the 33rd rule of acquisition: "It never hurts to suck up to the Boss".
**bleep**. He got a Springsteen reference as well. I really should stop writing before I empty my bag of quotes.
By the way, Charly, Cool... You get 5 stars for the VIs and for the chilli story - *****. And these 5 stars shall forever remain 5. They will not be affected by the passage of time, or by changing the forum system, or by problems in the search engine. You should treasure them.
Oh, and here are a few more for JP - ***************************************.

I was wondering the same too. After some thinking, I came up with a list of the most logical and possible answers:

  • He is a supernatural entity - like an angel, or he is already dead and his soul is just hanging around. He has all eternity and decided to spent a fraction of it learning and sharing about LabVIEW and stuff.

  • He is an evolved supercomputer - part of a highly classified experiment, Knutson is really a super program able to learn, adapt, understand and interact electronically. "They" decided to make it learn about LabVIEW to see it interacting with other technically-oriented humans. It will continue until is deactivated, enough evidence is collected so that it is vastly superior to humans, or rewrite itself completely in LabVIEW (including the operating system)

  • He is a multimillionaire person - Like Batman (Bruce Wayne), he has enough money and time to to whatever he wants. He is always in his KnutsonCave with his supercomputer and all the neat NI products around doing testings and answering questions.

  • He is on a bet - somebody told him "if you answer 100,000 questions in 7 years and keep an excellent average, you wil win 100,000,000 dollars. Other people where in that bet (Gorka Larrea, labviewguru... remember?) but they already resigned and he is the only one in the bet. (of course, he knows for sure he will get the money if he finish)

  • He is a superhero - he feels all this G power running through his veins and feel this obligation that he must give back his gift to the world. If there is a day where he believe he can't continue by himself, he will create the "LabVIEW League" to create a team and tackle some of the most powerful G-problems.

  • He is a cyborg - similar to RoboCop, something went wrong while doing some risky experiments and, almost dying, "they" performed an experiment implanting robotic and artificial intelligence limbs and brain parts. The only human emotion left was the satisfaction of resolving problems using LabVIEW. He escaped the laboratory fortress and nobody knows where is he now, only to know that he continuosly contribute to NI forums to feel alive. (Probably like this!)

  • He is a collective - like the Borgs in Start Trek, or a room full of monkeys in front of computers. The most probable hypothesis of this theory is that this collective is the undisclosed fate of all former NI employees. They all answer by the name "Dennis Knutson".

  • He is an agent - Under the fake identity of "Dennis Knutson", "Agent K" cannot confirm or deny he is a NI employee because he is actually a NI secret agent. He continuosly participate in the forums to keep his abilities at their best until trouble strikes and he is called into action.

So I am not the only person that suspects that

Did you ever wonder why he never posted his picture?

I think NI should "come out of the closet" and let the world know what they have accomplished with the DK4000+.

If they did they could use it to replace the existing search engine and save the rest of a lot of work.

So, "Is he real, or is he Memorex?".
