Enthusiasts 2

Note 1 – I would love to be told that this is some kind of an Eisenberg effect : looking at the scores increases the number of replies. Obviously this is just a fantasm, since the overall number of replies is merely a direct reflect of the overall number of questions ! Greedy members, such as Dennis, are just stealing stars from the others, specially those living in Europe, strongly disadvantaged by the time shift (with a special mention for France...). May be we could ask people at NI to leave more bugs and forget the documentation in the next LV release to give us the opportunity to win more stars...

Note 2 - I don’t mean that they were better than others, I just mean “outstanding” ... although the list contained some familiar names... My idea was that the best answers were statistically supposed to receive more ratings than others. Factors able to affect this ratio are the propency to chattering of some of us, that can lower significantly their score, supposing that they do not receive stars abusively... I agree with JPD, we have not been much rigorous during the last period. Let’s say that this was the result of some kind of euphory induced by the anoxy due to the incredible altitude were Dennis brought us... By now, we should be acclimatized. Anyway, I was wrong, but I‘ll come back to this idea once the Entropy and Sponge bugs have been corrected.

Note 3 – That’s probably my worst lie. I must admit that the exchanges with all of you, enlighted by stars and smileys, are truely rewarding. Thanks...

Sorry ! It's early morning here, the maximum length of a post is limited to 5000 chars, and I was so disorientated that I forgot the attachment. That's Molly's fault...

During the last 15 days, there has been an undeniable tendency to chattering, without any clear contribution to the technical quality of the forum. This is NOT a criticism (I have my part here) and my opinion is that this behaviour is strongly desirable and should be encouraged. However, I believe that a special board should be devoted to these chats, and the stars given there should be counted separately, with a fourth golden bar awarded to the most deserving countributers (humor, social interest, philosophical deepness, you name it...).
According to previous posts, there seems to be a general agreement on the subject. May be somebody (Ben, Altenbach ?) could try to summarize the various opinions that have been presented.

That’s all for today. See you next month !

Monsieur Charly,

C'est bien de considerer les canadiens francais, cajuns at acadiens 😄

(or should I say in native language) "C'est ben d'ta part de penser a nous autes" 😉

I feel that we do need a place to meet & chat. How else do we get to meet other contributers from around the globe? Now sharing a beer across the sceen may be a challenge, but I'm sure Dennis can whip up a vi for us that will do the job 😉

As for an extra bar, I don't think it is necessary. We don't really need to rate humour and socializing... (well then again... maybe we should... 😉 )

The "chat room" should be open to anyone for a visit, there may be a Dennis jr. hiding inside a newbie somewhere..
I do agree that any rating done inside the chat room should not affect the score obtained from the regular forums. To me, I look at the excessive star-giving as a way to express that the star system is not perfect. Although supposidly "meaningless and insignificant", how does one feel about getting a 1-star rating... Let's not open that can of worms..

We know each other from contributions, whether questions or answers. The chatroom could be a place to actually get to know each other.. for instance : >>> SAY WHAT??? Dennis is married??? <<<

Some of us wander from one product to the next. I am now doing development in LabWindows-CVI, which means I'll be visiting that forum more often. (I will drop by for the occasional visit) 😉

I'd better stop before reaching the max word limit.

Thanks CC for the Enthusiast updates.

BTW, what is the "Evoluation" column?? Maybe I'll read your post again 😄

Cheers,

Ray

In my extra lenghty post, I forgot to say one thing.

I consider these posts as contribution to this forum. If the forum is evolving, and it obviously is, then all the feedback (humourous or not) has an impact on the shape that the forum may/will take in the future.

Let's continue to have these discussions..

And if people get stars, then so be it.. There are no restrictions to who participates in this thread, right?
Maybe an opportunity for JPD to find his stars..

😄

Hi Joe et al,

If you look close, you will see that CC is running at about the same rate the guru was running at!

It seems the current level for becoming "Active" is 195 posts. Just FIY.
By the way, Ben\Charly, I find it a bit discouraging that the last columns are only for the top 50 contributors. I've climbed from 180 in file #5 to 140 in file #6 to 120 in #7. I would love to have seen how that looks on the evolution column. Also, having been mostly inactive for most of the time this account was open, the answers/day mark sucks. If I could see it for the last month I would be more encouraged.
"I don't use drugs, my dreams are frightening enough" (M.C. Escher) - at night I dream I'm being chased around by a giant Dennis, who has 3 computers, which he uses at the same time to keep his edge. I need some encouragement.
