Disabling the reply option is a good Laura.
However the only problem would be if the employer
does not give sufficient details / Descriptions .
there is no way to intimate him for the new threads

I dont think so the employer is going to reply after 3 years.
So disabling the thread after 6 months is a good option. Dont you think so?

That is very true.
The old threads should be disabled.

I dont know how feasible this is going to be but can the poster alone be able to add extra info and not others. In other words for the rest of the members the thread will be a readonly one. Again after a months time. Within that time we can indded clarify our doubts...
So that in the remotest case that the position is still open after a year then the original poster can always write saying the position is still open
