How long do we have to write a reply?

I started writing a reply this morning, but then got sidetracked with more important things. When I came back, there were no new replies and my answer was still suitable, so I finished the post and tried to submit it. It failed and I got an authentication error.

However, I was definitely still logged into my profile.

Any guess what happened? Is there a time limit to compose posts?

And of course this happens when you write a long and detailled reply. And of course, no backup !

I don't remember that problem before the forum update. Sure, somebody will have to pay for that

I've had problems with the Submit failing when I've taken a long while to compose a post. I got tired of it and now do a CTRL-A, CTRL-C at regular intervals just in case.

I think it recently got extended to 10 min..

Which is just about the time I need for an Espresso!

The 10 minutes is for editing time, not time to write a reply.  There should not be a time limit on replying.  Previously, there had been issues with your session if you took to long to reply (like a few hours or more) where this would happen.  I was under the impression it had been fixed - and it didn't happen the last time that I tested it. 

Altenbach - how long would you say you were sidetracked for?

Hi altenbach,

I think I've just realized what happened - this week we've been experiencing problems with our website and because the forums are integrated with the log in used for the rest of the website, it probably erased your session id.  So, I don't think this is a problem with the forums, but rather with the rest of the website.  I know that people here are working to resolve the issue.
