Kudos from private forums don't count toward public kudo count

I am in a member of private forumher and I just discovered today that any kudos received there don't show up in my public total. Not that I get that many there but it is strange seeing one number when logged in and another when I'm not. This isn't a huge issue but it would be nice if we had some consistency at least.

That feature has been around as long a Kuods or even prior when we still working on the star system. it lead to confusion when exactly people crossed count thresholds.

Since many of the contributors here are curious animals, changing it could frustrate some when they run across a contributor that has 100 Kudos but going to their posting page shows nothing (this would be the case of BETA testers that only post to the Beta forums).

In my opinion either the private areas should not allow kudos or if they do, then then should count like regular ones. You are right, it does lead to confusion. That was what I meant by consistency. I don't have strong opinions one way or the other whether private forums have kudos or not. Merely saying is they are there then they should appear everywhere the kudo count appears.

Hi Mark,

I understand that this can be confusing for users for the exact reasons that you stated.  Unfortunately, as Ben said, this is how Kudos have always been handled and it is unlikely to change.  However, I will submit your feedback to our forum vendor.

That's not a big problem. Currently, the public post count includes posts in private forums, so the confusion (if any) is already there. It is just that the kudos count gets a special treatment, which is inconsistent.

I agree with Mark that there should be exactly one number that includes all kudos. Else we might get a congratulatory thread for the 500th kudos while some usres see it only as 450. The inconsitency also makes derived calculations, such as kudos/post very suspect.

Then we have metrics, such as "# of solution authored" that are not even visible unless we are logged it. Shouldn't that be visible?

My personal opinion: All visible metrics should include all posts, public and private.

Is there any good reason that "Solutions Authored" is private?

I would tell you but it's top secret. 🙂

Seriously though, I have wondered the same thing.
