Labview Forum Star Rating Seems Odd - For Those Blue Contributers ;)

Whilst browsing throught the fourms one day....
I noticed the following indicated 1 star thread
Absolutely Beginner in LabView.(But advanced in CVI) Need help! http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/message?board.id=170&message.id=39090
Now I read these one star threads because often the person giving one star either has a really good reason or .... its contoversial or... well anyway,

I thought that the total seemed in error. That is to say that in the above thread the estimation on the summary was indicated as 1 star / 1 rating, whilst there actually appear to be 2 ratings. One of 5 stars (no supprises, it was for a contribution from Dennis Knutson) and another of one star for Wendy L (I would actually have probably clicked some more stars on that but I have left it alone for the moment).

So why do the blue contributers get proprity over anyone else? 😉 or is it a bug? or has the sytem changed?

Now I know the Star ratings are contentious, but if the thing can't even add!  I must have thousands of stars by now? or is it really zero after all?

And another star thing - I noticed that I didn't have the radio buttons for rating both of Nick's posts (19 & 20) here.

This isn't a login issue, since I am logged in.
It's not a signature issue, since I can rate some of his older posts.
It's not a blue user issue, since I can rate other blue users.
It's not a thread issue, since I can rate other posts in that thread.
The posts already have a single 5 star rating each (which I didn't give), so either someone hijacked my user, logged in, rated those and marked them as unread or that other users can rate those and I'm the only (?) one who can't.

Any idea, Nick?

Conseils,

In the message you mention, the 5 star contribution was dated about 4 years ago, while the 1 star message is very recent. I understand that the ratings system (and possibly the forum structure) was changed a few years ago (before my time), so it is probable that any legacy stars are no longer contributing to the current thread summary ratings.

Good point, I didn't pay attention to the dates. Ooops

I suspect you are correct..

So when is a Star not a Star.. when it's a Black Hole of course or a Red Dwarf a .. urmmm. So the rule is when its not older than X, not awarded in the months of Y and Z other than by W then its a Star. Ahh I think I have the hang of it now?

My astrophysics is a bit shaky I thought it was only Pluto's status as a planet that was up for grabs. I didn't realise I would need astrophysics for the evaluation scheme.

Did anyone write that LabVIEW code for calculating the true value of a Star? They are starting to feel a bit like those points they award at supermarkets or petrol stations... Ok if you buy a lot of petrol when they start the scheme but a waste of time if you fill up once every two weeks. 😉

As I remeber Mollys explanation...

All of the pre-existing ratings at the time of the switch over got dropped.

JPD's thread "I have lost my stars!" explored this subject.

Thanks for the clarification on the status of the Stars, I am full of cold at the moment and enjoyed mowing through the forums as a distraction from the misery imposed by those pesky little bugs. I just thought it odd that the thing didn't add up but then one could now ask why did it show them at all...

Perhaps they should be shown as a Neutron Stars Smiley Wink to help those of us mortals that don't know any better?

Neutron Star (for those, like me, who are astrophysically challenged).

Nick,

This thread is the most recent posting by you where I could apply a rating.

http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/message?board.id=130&message.id=2560#M2560

It looks like all of posting after that are un-rate-able!

BTW: You do not have a star average like everyone else!

Ben
