Load time of reply window

The load time of the reply window is rather long, somewhat of 10-15 seconds (either at home or at the office).
With this feature we will never be able to get into the reach of Dennis/Altenbach/Ben

Laura could something be done about this?

I've seen this very occasionally, but at the moment it loads in well under a second for me. 🙂

One of the problems is the fact that you cannot start typing unless every little icon of the toolbar has loaded.

Or if you click the browser's stop button after the images started loading (which is what I just did now).

I guess this is a valid workaround IF the hanging occurs on an unimportant late page element and the code for the edit window has fully loaded. I am no expert with this.

I am not sure if this is still the case (I cannot test because the page always loads fast for me ;)), but long ago, if you clicked e.g. the "Quote Post" button while the page was still loading, the quoted text was inserted unformatted in the  top part of the browser window, way above and outside the "message Body" window. 😞

Well I just timed it:
56 seconds from hitting the reply button until an edit postion..
I append I screenshot I made after 10 seconds:
see attachment

This stays the same while the status bar of Firefox 2.0 says: Connecting with forums.ni.com and waitn for forums.ni.com

Hey look at that! Seems you're about 0.5 years faster than me. 😮

Hi Ton,

Firefox takes longer for me to load the reply window as well (although not 56 seconds!) and I see those messages in the status bar.  IE does not take nearly as long.  I recently asked Lithium about their plans for Firefox and was told that there were a handful of things they were unhappy about with the Firefox performance on the Forums and that they hoped to correct many of them in the future.   I would guess that this is one of them.

I will keep you updated if I hear anything else.

Thanks!
Laura

I thought that was just me with a slow browser or rather a slow Internet connection at work.  😮

I am using IE6. 😮

I typically wait forever when giving stars ratings.  😮

I didn't time it, but it definitely feels like >60 sec...  😞

For me, with both IE6 and IE7 it usually takes at least 10 seconds to get the prompt the first time. Subsequent loadings from the cache are usually much faster, although they do occasionally take time as well.
