I agree that there are sometimes fragmented "serial posts" that can only be explained by some malfunction like this.
What browser are you using? What kind of browser toolbars are installed?
It could just be some corruption in memory. Did you try to completely close all browser windows and start over? (or even reboot the computer).
I would also do a virus and malware/spyware scan.

I'm using IE 6.0.2900, with no special toolbar installed.
I don't think it was corruption in memory.
There was no need to completely close all browser windows and start over.
I am sure I hit some odd combination of keys. The surprising part was that the keyboard would submit the post.. And a continue with a new one. It's the first time I had this happen. I'll try to reproduce it.
I regularly do a virus scan, and had restored the PC about 1 month ago. So it should be "relatively" clean.

I tried to reproduce the multiple posts, but did not try the Tab key. Actually, I have had the Tab key issue in the past. It posts prematurely... However, when this occurred, it was different, it would post and open a new window with all the text that was typed so far and it would post it as soon as I hit the spacebar. Fortunately, I was looking at the screen when it happened and only two posts made it.. I stopped typing beforing hitting the spacebar a 3rd time.
At least, in my case, it was a multiple post within the same thread.. Nothing bad... Just helped my post count 😉

Tab key gets you out of the edit box and highlights the submit button? Pressing spacebar on a highlighted button is like clicking on it? Still doesn't explain how the edit box would retain focus for accepting keystrokes or that once it is submitted, the edit box still has all that was typed up to that point.
EDIT. I just did a tab key. Yes the Submit button highlighted. Did a spacebar. Yes it submitted it. But it did not return back to the message, it just behaved like I had submitted normally, i.e. showing me my posted message.

Hi Ravens Fan,
Yes, I've seen what you described before..
But this was different... It retained what I typed.. Each post contained an additional word. I will illustrate below (in the next posts).
So that was "strange"... and it may help understand some multiple posts where there is a new word in each of the posts...
Here we go with an example...
