NI Developer Exchange Wishlist addition.

OK. Following a post on the main board, I think the last part may be unnecessary.
If so, the right structure is

Sorry. That was stupid. I fell bait to my own trap. I forgot to include the real tag.

A neat idea might be to have a structure similar to a loop but with no functionality that allows you to place blocks of code inside that would be hidden from the compiler, a sort of "code holding area". Currently if I have a block of code that I wish to remove for testing or diagnostics purposes, the obvious way is to stick it in the FALSE section of a case rather than erase it or cut/paste to another VI. That's OK for working "white arrow" blocks, but if you have development sections that are incomplete "grey arrow" blocks, that you know you will need in future, you could quarantine them in such a structure until needed. There are probably implications that are not immediately obvious, but I reckon it might be handy during development / debug. 🙂

Any thoughts ...

You're right, Neil, but this thread actually discusses the forums, and not LV. There was another thread where this issue came up (although I'm not sure whether it was here or in the LAVA forums. I actually believe it was in the LAVA forums), so if it's here you can look for it, if not maybe open a new LV wishlist thread. By the way, this kind of structure actually exists in the 7.1 PDA module, where you can run code based on your system. The code in the other frames can even be broken and the VI will still run. Happy hunting...

Tst

Apologies, I thought it was a general Wishlist, LV included. 😞
While you're there ... I assume from your reply that there is no ongoing LV wishlist. A bit surprising, I would have thought that would be one of the first things one of the "old hands" would have posted. There must be folks out there with all sorts of upgrade/improvement ideas !
Also, is there a list of live LV "issues" (bugs ;)) posted by NI anywhere ?

Hi NeilR,

The live LV "issues" would be handy but dont restrict to LV and have it links with the Updates site.

I think you can use "Report to a moderator" under the Options dropdown. 🙂

Time to get out the switch cleaning fluid ... or get a less unruly mouse 😉

Hi,

I have recently discovered that you can translate web pages from one language to another.

I response come up on one of the boards to an on going question, but this time it was in french. Previous responses had been in English.

So armed with my new found knowledge, I popped open a new window, and entered www.google.com. When the google page appeared, I clicked on the Language Tools link.

Initially I cut and pasted the text into the Translate text box, selected French to English and Pressed the Translate button.
As with these tools the translation was not perfect but I got the gist of the reply.

Then I noticed that it will translate a page page, So I pasted the link of the forum web page and pressed the translate button again.
It translated the post in question, which is useful to know. Only draw back with translating a web page is it tried to translate the english response, so those responses looked a bit funny.

Any way my wish would a Tool to translate someone post, and of course not screw up the other responses, so it would need to be selected.

Maybe when you go to reply an additional option is available 'Cancel Post | Preview Post | Translate Post | Check Spelling'.

Molly, if there is any way to prevent people from posting bitmap files. I don't know how they have the patience for it, but I've seen more than one person post a 3 MB BMP. Even with a broadband connection this is taxing. If it was possible to tell them when they post "bitmap very bad. JPEG gooood" that would be great.
Also, I haven't come across any thread where I needed it, but it would be nice if html tags could be turned off on a thread basis, so if you come across a thread with bad writing (wink) you simply select "turn off html tags" instead of having to go into your options.
Also, you said you'd come back with an answer about uploading personal icons to your server when you got an answer. Has anything happened with that?

tst -

I can remove the .bmp file extension from the list of acceptable attachment types if we all think that is the right thing to do in the community. Maybe we can have this as a poll in the near future... Or, you call can just post your opinion here and let me know if you think they should be removed.

Not sure I understand the use case for the HTML tag remover. What is an example of bad writing where you would want to turn them off?

Finally, the personal icons... I asked the team here and they requested that I ask the company who hosts the forums if they would provide this service. I asked them and they said they want to do it, but don't have a means of managing it yet. So, I'm back to working with the team here to find out how we could manage it. It's not ruled out just yet -- everyone likes the idea -- it is just a matter of figuring out how to accomplish it. Thanks for your patience!

Have a great day!
