NI Discussion Forum Upgrade - August 13, 2008

When editing, the old version always let me attach another image. Edit multiple times, multiple attachments. The emoticon, New Images, and other thread bear witness to this feature.

For serious posts, three images are not enough.

Oh ok ben got your point.Though i have not tried that

I vote for going back to the old method of inserting smileys. The new method is frustrating, slow, and half the time it doesn't even work. Sometimes (actually more like usually) when you click on a smiley nothing happens. I have to resort to right-clicking, copying the URL, going back to the message, inserting a picture, put in the URL of the smiley, and then even that sometimes doesn't display the picture properly (you get a generic square box indicating a broken link). Bah.

Of course, there is an upside to the new method. Since it's frustrating and slow perhaps it will damp down on their excessive use. Hah! (would have inserted smiley here, but didn't work.)

Maybe it didn't work in your post but it did have its affect on my face.

Smiley's aside...

I just added a new Tag.  Successfully, mind you..  However, the old behavior was that when you add a Tag, it refreshed the window and displayed the new tag-name.  This time, it didn't refresh..  As I was about to retry, I decided to do a manual refresh and saw the new Tag name..

Anyone else seen this behavior?

So I often just type colon : parentheses ) to get my smiley 🙂

If you don't like to see Emoticons you can change your profile - set My Profile > Preferences > Display Settings > Emoticon Type to "None"

Note that this will only change they way you see emoticons typed in like I did above.  If someone uses the popup to insert an emoticon, you will still see it displayed that way.

I have file a suggestion to change the smiley popup box so that it is not so cumbersome.

Thanks,

Laura

Additional issue with the popups for the links and smileys: Sometimes the popups are not large enough. Don't know if this is a browser issue or if it's with the new method that's being used. Seen on Firefox 2.

Examples attached.

I've noticed a strange behavior.  When replying to a post, occasionally, just as I start typing, the page refreshes itself and moves the page up.  It then has a white window to the right, above the area where I type.  I'll post a screen capture next time it happens.
