NI Discussion Forum Upgrade - November 2, 2007

I am pleased to announce that the NI Discussion Forums have gone through an upgrade.  We have some new features and a variety of bug fixes.

New Features:

Search now indexes text, PDF, and Word file attachments
New Profile Page Layout

Bug Fixes:

• Open Response in advanced search now works correctly - returns only threads without replies

• Blank page after posting no text

• Find the threads I started - you can now do an advanced search without the words "Re:" and return only messages written by you

• Allow attachments with uppercase extensions

• Exact phrase search no long omits common words

• Search improvements - for example, this should work now

• Time Zones & Daylight Savings Time - Overhauled to work worldwide, including timezones on the half-hour.

• Increased security for HTML in signatures - For security, some HTML tags are no long allowed in signatures.  For example, img style="border:0" is no longer allowed.  Instead, you should use img border=0.  Also, a href title = "text" is no longer allowed (this creates tooltips).  You will not notice this change until you edit your signature.  The forum will automatically remove that HTML from your signature when you are editing it so that you can see what is not allowed.  Most simple HTML is fine.

So, you celebrated the Halloween & changed back your logo to your older self... ?!

I thought the doctor was on vacasion. Somehow, I get the impression that your logo resembles a doc, thats why...

I have a problem with the upgrade. I have used to turn off the "Sort Threads by Newest Message Time" setting in the "General Settings" section. However, now it always turns back on when I visit the board.

And the next change will fix the rating system (I hope).

It looks like the change introduced two new bugs!

1) See this thread where CC (   ) posted triplets of emoticons.

While the emoticons all show, the link to the image of one of the three is missing in all his posting!

2) The reply number are now numbered backwards!

We often reply to Q's in the form " Please see reply #X in this thread.

ALL of those number are now wrong!

I concider that a serious bug.

and BTW

Silly me, I did not think anyone other than Dennis and Christian posted on the week-end.

Regarding the new look of our profile.

Could you put the link for "Find all posts by this user" at the top?

That is the primary reason I visit my profile (aside from admiring my star count )

Could you sneak that small change in?

OK, ignore my previous about "post by..."

Its a wrapping issue. If I size the window larger the link is viewable without scrolling to the bottom.

Another bug.

WHen I rate an answer, the stars don't show up in left pane under icon.

The star count for the individual increments but the thread does not show the stars.

The option to re-rate the post is gone.

Just no stars!

More observations about star bug.

after about five minutes I am allowed to re-rate the posts. On the second attempt the stars do show up.

So maybe you should NOT fix this bug since it gives us the chance to double rate posts.

This bug renders the bulk of thoes replies uesless.
