New Features on the NI Discussion Forums!

No, yeah, I understand that Laura. It just seems a little strange to me. Even if i click on "6 months" or "Year", I'm still at the top, and this just doesn't make sense to me. I'm not that "kudoish". Smiley Very Happy

Well, maybe there is a secret fan club full of smercurio_fc groupies. 😮

At least in the future you will be able to tell where they are coming from.... 🙂

Luara I have to admit the Lithium really came through for us this time.

Pass on my Kudos to whoever finally made this happen!

Will it be possible to mark more than one message as a solution to a question? On one hand sometimes in the discussion a better solution is given after the first one, on the other hand there are some threads that are more likely an open discussion on an argument than a single question / answer post (e.g. serial communications and some other I can remember), with additional questions posted by different users throughout sevral weeks: each of the questions could have a different solution!

Proud to use LW/CVI from 3.1 on.

Very nice features, they will be really helpful.

One minor issue: When I look at the profile of another user, it says 'My recent posts' , 'My recent Kudos from', ...

I was wondering about the same thing.

  1. Maybe "accepted solution" should not be a permanent mark, but the thread author should be able to mark new answers as they come in, which then would move the tag to the new solution. Still, only one tag per thread. This does not address the problem if there are several equally good solutions.
  2. It also does not address the problem if the thread author does not have enough knowledge to tell which solution is better and might mark a monstrosity over a tight "in-place" solution as being better.
  3. How about the ability to retract the "accepted solution" tag. Maybe we have a case where the "solution" later turns out to be incorrect?
  4. The problem with answers to "thread hijackers", is different. If we would allow multiple tags to multiple questions in a single thread, it would be impossible to tell which answer is to what question. Also the author of the second question would not be allowed to mark the accepted solution anyway. We simply have to be more insistent that new questions start with a new thread.
  5. Long and developing threads that slowly shift topics are something else. Maybe they don't even need such a tag. The tag should only be given for clear and simple answers to clear and simple questions anyway.
