New search engine

What? Is that syntax for the regular search window? Like I initialy said, I hate syntax. That's part of the reason I like LV so much and the reason I like advanced search pages.

I would like to point out that my earlier explanation of the advanced search page seems to be at least partly wrong. I typed "welcome" with no time restrictions, and Molly's "Welcome to new forums" thread didn't come up.
Unless this thread is considered to be part of the special interest boards and those are still not searchable. But, the search did bring up results from this board.
In short, I don't know. I give up trying to understand it.

.... welcome to the club ,... 🙂

I did a search by simply typing welcome

This was in 6th place:

I KNOW THAT. If I may quote you:

Well,...

I'll be a ***CENSORED*** **blanked** ***Aiye-caramba!***....

Believe it or not, I never even noticed the search feature at the very top.

Remind me where you learned the search box at the top of the page exists?

I was talking about the other search engine. The one found at the bottom and in the advanced page. I thought it works for threads created after the change, but apparently that's not so clear cut.

Yes...

The one at the bottom of the page seems to have a mind of its own..
I'm never successful when using that one.
It doesn't seem to find old or new posts.
As a matter of fact, it doesn't seem to find anything useful at all.

Maybe I don;t know how to use it... but "let's get real"...
do we need a PhD in "searchiology" to find our own post???

Yikes!!!

Additional rant - the search box at the top of the window doesn't seem to return some results from the forums unless it's specifically set to search the forums.
I had something with error 1320, so I selected "entire site" and searched for 1320 and got nothing relevant. Then, after realizing there were some relevant threads, I set it to discussion forums and I found 2 relevant results.
Very annoying.

tst -

You are right that the Entire Site filter on the search at the top of the page does not include the discussion forum content. The filter needs to be set to either Discussion Forums, NI Developer Zone, or Support to return forum results.

The forum content is excluded from the Entire Site search because there are so many threads they tend to dominate the results list.

Hope that helps!

Please vote in the current poll (in the Feedback on the Developer Exchange board) about the search engine to let us know if you want to always see the threads, always see the messages, or have the option to choose.

We want to provide the option to return entire threads in the results, but we need to determine if it is worth developing the option to choose between the two or not. If no one wants to see the individual messages returned, then it's not worth it 🙂

Thanks!

It's true that since most threads don't get to be longer than 20 messages, the need for the ability to be able to reach a specific post is usually non existent, but of course I voted for the ability to have both. The nicest option would be to turn it on only in a thread that has more than X posts.
BTW, I think the polls aren't prominent enough. Maybe you should use a red font for the POLL on new polls (less than a week or 2 or 3).

I agree 100% with tst, except that I don't like the idea of the red font since it is usually associated to the idea of danger (gives 99 %...). I think it could be better to include a flashing led to attract our attention (after all this is a LabVIEW forum...)
