Please shut-off 1-start - 4-star ratings!

Solved!

Hi Laura,

Lets start simple.

Please post a date by which this on-going problem will be fixed.

It is a shame that my longest thread is this one. Smiley Sad

I know this has been proposed before, but here goes again:

What if the rating system didn't do an overall average of stars, but rather a skewed method where the newest rating places weight on the last average.  That way, you do not need 8 ratings to offset a single 1 star rating.

example:

1 star = 1

5 star = 3

5 star = 4

5 star = 5

🙂

Ben,
Proposing a new system should not be a problem. But may be laura is having  difficulty  in mapping the current status with  a new one. What will happen to all the current status  if the  new rating system is just  having  an accepted button. What will happen to all those stars???Smiley Sad

Hi muks,

You wrote "Proposing a new system should not be a problem..."

Sorry to disagree but if it prevents declaring a date when this on-going problem will be fixed, then its a problem.

The community has suffered from this issue for more than long enough and we have been patiently waiting. All the while we have had to round up groups of contributors to manually "fix" the damge done to our volunteer contributors. It is against my nature to stand back and let others be abused*, let alone those that have given of their own time and knowledge to try to help others. No muks, you and the others deserve better treatment!

Lithium must fix this bug in their implelementaion of the forums and they have been "jerking us around" for years. I am tired of hearing Lithium say "they will fix it some day."

So...

Laura,

Please insist Lithum establish a date by which this issue will be fixed.

to fight the unbeatable foe,
to bear with unbearable sorrow,
to run where the brave dare not go...

To right the unrightable wrong,
to love pure and chaste from afar,
to try when your arms are too weary
to reach the unreachable star!

This is my quest --
to follow that star
no matter how hopeless,
no matter how far --

To fight for the right without question or pause,
to be willing to march into hell for a heavenly cause!

And I know if I'll only be true to this glorious quest
that my heart will be peaceful and calm when I'm laid to my rest.
And the world will be better for this that one man, scorned and covered with scars,
still strove with his last ounce of courage To reach the unreachable stars!

Hi everyone,

I certainly wish that I could track the person giving muks' the bad ratings, but I do not have the ability to view who is giving the ratings.

I have seen the new rating system that we will have soon, and I am hopeful that it will solve many of the issues we face today.  In order to get the new rating system, we first need to upgrade our forum software.  I have just started testing the upgraded software.  I cannot give a hard and fast date as to when this upgrade will take place because I have not completed enough testing yet.  Once we upgrade, I plan to give us a few weeks to work out any additional bugs encountered and then we will begin the new rating system roll out.  Once I start working on the roll out plan, I will solicit feedback from you regarding how to convert the old ratings into the new ratings.

While I cannot say when to expect the upgrade, as you can see it is soon and I am actively working on it.  I will keep you updated about the process and solicit your feedback regarding some of the configurations we will be able to make.

Regards,
Laura

Excellent!

That is a report of progress which is more than I asked. Please keep us posted if delays are encountered and please let us know if we can help with beta testing prior to the final release.

Thank you,

Ben

Any opinions on this suggestion?I feel it is a good suggestion within the existing rating system
