Hi,
I just try to download my own snippet from a message like this.
Problem: even though the message claims the image/snippet has a filesize of 387kB the downloaded file ALWAYS comes back with just 31kB! And (ofcourse) it isn't a snippet anymore, but just a plain PNG image:
What's wrong with up-/downloading snippets?

Works fine in chrome. I get the full file size.
Could it be some security feature strips out metadata from images? (e.g. built into firefox, other browser extension, security software, etc.)

Yup also fine here, both using the attachment link, and right clicking the image and opening it in a new tab. This was both in Chrome on Windows 10.

Hi,
not for me.
The first message was written using latest Firefox. In Firefox I use uBlockOrigin to keep the screen clean from advertising. And I use "just" Windows Defender…
Now I used latest Chrome, without any add-ons:
The file appears with just 32kB in size on my harddrive!
I would rather guess some CDN issues for European forum users!?

3rd attempt, now using my mobile phone instead of the computer: still downloading an image of just 31.33kB...
4th attempt, using mobile phone with mobile connection instead of WiFi and so using a different provider: still downloading just a 31kB image.
(See screenshot showing the file size.)
(Tomorrow I will check again using the office computer with a different provider.)

Good morning,
12 hours later, now using the computer at work (completely different network provider, several firewalls and load balancers in between): I can download my own snippet correctly now.
So I (still) guess there was a problem with some CDN used to host the forums…

Hi,
the problems still persists…
At home I cannot download my own snippet correctly, I still get an 31kB image instead of a 387kB snippet.
In a different thread the same problem with this message: instead of a 48kB snippet I only get a 13kB image! The other user in that thread seems to have the very same problem as can be read in message #30 and following…
What's going on here? Is this a problem of my internet provider?
Can this be related to image compression, implemented by some internet providers, to reduce bandwidth needs? (Similar as is described here.)
To summarize:
But:
Damn…

I seem to run into this problem on any snippet I upload now:
The message/snippet was created just some minutes ago!
(A possible work-around might be to provide the "Download ALL" button also for single attachments due to the ZIP archive it provides…)
A related (?) problem with those snippets/images: when moving the mouse over the image I don't get the option to show the image in a different tab (that "black arrow in a black square" at the upper right corner of the image) or to open that pop-up dialog (by left-clicking the image) as usually available on images in messages…
One more indication: in the German www.labviewforum.de I can easily up-/download snippets without any problem! The problem described in this thread only appears in the NI forum!

Next observation:
Directly after posting a message with a snippet I can download the snippet correctly with expected filesize (tried here). But some seconds later (on second try) I only get a smaller file presented: for me it seems there is something going on in NI's forum software!
One more observation:
Does that relate to the fact that I upload images as attachment to the message, then edit the message and just insert a link to the attachment in the message text to have the image appear? (I do this because my personal image album is way too large…)

Hi GerdW,
Sorry for the delay in getting back to you on this. It's possible it's a compression issue with a CDN. @jenniferbni was able to reproduce your issue although I cannot. We're going to do some digging on it and see what we can discover. As I mentioned in another thread, there have been some changes to our CDN that, while improving some things, has had a few rough edges. Thanks for letting us know and when we're done with our investigation, I will post an update. If you see something else, please update us.
Thanks,
Mark
