Rating System Change

Due to the request of many of our community users, (see this thread) I have taken an intermediate step towards solving our ratings problem in the community.   Now, only relatively established users with 50 or more posts will be able to rate messages.   In my experience, the vast majority of 1 star ratings come from users new to the community.  We do not intend for any message rating to be negative, however, due to the nature of the 1 to 5 star system, anything less than 5 stars can be interpreted as an insult.

I realize this does not fix the problem.  There are currently no other feasible options available for the rating system.  I do know that at some point in the future, our forum vendor will release new rating system options to us.  At that point, I will start a discussion about which of the options is best for our community.  Unfortunately, I do not have an idea of their timeline currently.  I hope to be able to give an update on when we might expect new options soon.

Let the proclaimation ring throughout the land!

This sounds like a wonderful solution and seems to be yet another way that NI listens to the community.

One other thing that I should have mentioned above is that I hope this change does not drive away any of our new users.  The change is temporary and once we have more rating system options, everyone will hopefully be able to rate posts again without the negative side effects of a 1 star rating.  It will be great to have a better system for a someone to thank the person that answers their question.

If you are a new user to our forums and are reading this, it would be great if you would post some feedback.

Thanks,
Laura

What ever happened to replying to the post with a simple "Thank You"? That always seems to work on LAVA.

Hey! What about our egos?!? I want my ego protected to ensure not getting 5-star ratings! Smiley Very Happy

here are my thoughts:

I like the idea of a one click 'Thank you'.

And I would like to have an additional flag/marking to point other users to a remarkable, worth to digg in the threat/posting. For quality reasons, this could be filtered by a number of posting quota. The 'rating' will come by the number of feedback, since the level for this flag will be individual.

Personally, I don't care about ratings. I'm happy just being able to get help when I need it and the chance to contribute towards helping others when my experience allows it.

Well, I don't know if this is making that much of an impact. I'm still seeing undeserved 1-star rating, like this reply in this thread. Does a misunderstood question deserve a 1-star rating?

They must have fixed the rating before I saw the thread..

Reading too fast has its consequences... 😞
