Slight Change to Forum Layout - More Special Interest Boards

Today I added links to additional Special Interest Boards that you can see on the Special Interest Boards Category page.  To get to this page click on the link in the picture, or follow the Special Interest Boards breadcrumb:





Hopefully this will make it easier for you to find some of the specialty boards you like to visit.

I was wondering when we would get easier access to some of those hidden boards. Thanks.

Would it be possible to hide the description for those boards (maybe on a per-user basis). I have several of these floated and that text just creates noise and gets in the way. It's not terrible, but it's a bit annoying.

Alternatively, if it's unfeasible to set it as a per-user setting, how about just hiding them when the board is floated? Presumably, whoever floats a board knows what the board is about and doesn't need a description.

Hi tst,

One way to remove the description is to set an option in your profile:  On the Preferences tab, Portal Style Home Page Settings, set Board Browse Style to Compact.  I don't see anything that will disable only the description field.  However, you may prefer this compact style because it really reduces the interface to only the necessities.

I wouldn't mind trying the compact style, but a quick look shows that it does have one showstopper - all board names are in bold font. I rely on this visual clue to know which boards have new posts, so it's critical that read boards will have non-bold font. If that is not possible I could still try it, but it seems to be harder than scrolling through the description text.

It looks like the only visual indication of how many new threads next to the boards in the compact style is the gray number in square brackets next to the board name, the bold style doesn't change.  It doesn't quite jump out as much as the bolding though.

OK, after a few days I can definitely say this is a nuisance.

Consider it a feature request - if a board is floated, its description should not be displayed, at least not in the floated boards section.
