Some new suggestions for Forum Feedback

Hi.  I just learned about Forum Feedback from Lili McDonald, whom I e-mailed some suggestions for additional indexing.

I've wanted, in the past, to find posts that I've made that had "good ideas" or "useful code" in them.  This happened to me today, so I went looking, but using the My Kudos as a "filter" (thinking someone would have flagged it).  As it happens, I "mis-remembered" -- it was marked as a Solution, but not Kudo-ed.  So my suggestion was to add a "My Solutions" button.

Then I got carried away.  We already have an "All My Posts" (or "All Altenbach Posts", even more voluminous!), but I don't think we have an "All My Original Messages", nor "All Messages to which I responded" (the idea being only the Original Message would be returned, rather than all of my responses).

Lili showed me some work-arounds with filters, mentioned this board, and suggested I post a comment (or two) here.  As Arnold once said, "Ah'll be baaack..."

Thanks for posting this here, Bob! It's helpful to get feedback from others as to use cases for these potential features. For everyone else's benefit, here's what I've already discussed with Bob regarding his ideas.

Unfortunately, nothing like this currently exists on the platform, so I will have to raise enhancement requests with Lithium.

Here are some workarounds you may be interested in though:

For finding a solution written by a particular user -- this is dependent on you knowing more about exactly which post you're looking for.

1. Go to http://forums.ni.com/t5/forums/searchpage/

2. On the left sidebar, under "By Author" enter the username then select the user whose posts you are searching for.

3. If you know a phrase that was used in the post, click on Advanced Search next to the search box.

4. Enter in the search terms in the "exact phrase" field.

5. Click on refine search. You'll notice the solved topics have a green checkmark next to the title.

6. Click on "show results in replies" if you believe the post may be part of the topic you're viewing in the search results.

To see a list of topics that you created, you could go here: http://forums.ni.com/t5/forums/recentpostspage/post-type/thread/user-id/95728
I got this URL by changing the "message" part of this url to "thread": http://forums.ni.com/t5/forums/recentpostspage/post-type/message/user-id/95728

This URL can be grabbed by going to a user's profile, and in the "Latest Posts by..." component click on the View All link.

To see ideas (not forum topics) that a user has posted:
https://forums.ni.com/t5/forums/recentpostspage/post-type/thread/user-id/95728/interaction-style/ide...
Change the user ID (available from a user's profile) in the URL to change the user.

To see all posts a user has made in the Idea Exchange:
https://forums.ni.com/t5/forums/recentpostspage/post-type/message/user-id/95728/interaction-style/id...

Change the user ID (available from a user's profile) in the URL to change the user.

To see a list of topics you have participated in, you could check your subscriptions: https://forums.ni.com/t5/user/myprofilepage/tab/user-subscriptions%3Aemail-subscriptions

Note that subscriptions may contain topics that you subscribed to manually, and did not participate in.

Again, these are just workarounds to be used at your discretion. None of these are as ideal as what has been suggested, but perhaps it will provide the information you're looking for in some manner.

If anyone else has any workarounds to share, please do!

Thanks,

~~~~~~~~~
The 'My Accepted Solutions' component is now available on each user's profile. Read more about it in the post here: New 'My Accepted Solutions' component on the profile page
