Actually, no, it shouldn't, I'm hoping those threads get deleted, and I assume my post count will likewise be deleted for each of the posts in those old threads. I tried to group several (six) old thread links per post above so as to not artificially boost post count, but perhaps I should have more links per post (ten or so?).
My motivation here is to mobilize the community and web team to work together to increase the effectiveness of these forums by increasing the density of valid posts. I just noticed that several boards need some serious housekeeping, and I'm trying to help. Please advise if you know of a more effective way.

Well, from a practical perspective, what is there to be gained? If it's just SNR, I would agree with Ravens Fan that it's a waste of time. I think Laura's time would be better spent on improving the forums than clearing out this flotsam and jetsam. True, you can argue that getting rid of this flotsam and jetsam may improve the board, but I think that's debatable.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not belittling you... I'm just not seeing the big gains in doing this work, but I may be short-sighted.

If we used the tag marked_for_deletion I can batch delete threads which is very easy for me to do. However, we would just need to be careful that the entire thread should be deleted, not just a particular message or messages within the thread.
I don't mind cleaning up irrelevant posts especially if it easy. In my mind it helps drive anyone searching for the same problem to the appropriate post without them stumbling upon duplicates that just have a single reply redirecting you to a different post.
Thanks,
Laura

Couldn't agree more. I just feel like my hands are tied when it comes to requesting features and bugfixes - many of us have lined up a hefty queue for the forum interface, and until I see some DEQUEUES it seems like I should stop ENQUEUEING.
Making information more readily available gains a small benefit from scraping out the muck.
In reality, a GINORMOUS benefit would be realized from a better search engine. (Try searching "shift register" and "shift registers" on the Idea Exchange. 43 results and 35 results respectively.... really? Those searches should return the same recordset.)
Well, in the meantime, I'll keep tagging posts since Laura's able to delete them easily, and it's a step in the right direction for forum order.

The Idea Exchange has been very well maintained, but here are five stragglers tagged marked_for_deletion:
http://forums.ni.com/t5/LabVIEW-Idea-Exchange/How-to-plot-the-data-from-the-DAQ/idi-p/1090870#A4687
http://forums.ni.com/t5/LabVIEW-Idea-Exchange/dsc/idi-p/966065#A1603
This one is not an idea, and although it was not reposted in the correct board, tst points out the answer on the main boards. (this post some would argue should not be deleted, but instead moved to the correct forum. either way, it can be removed from the Idea Exchange): http://forums.ni.com/t5/LabVIEW-Idea-Exchange/paste-behavior-changed-in-8-6/idi-p/1004008#A2807
This one's pretty unique. It's not an Idea, it's not a question, it's not clear what's intended... http://forums.ni.com/t5/LabVIEW-Idea-Exchange/INSTRUMENT-SPECIFICATIONS/idi-p/1058832#A3941

In the Idea Exchange, I use the status "unspecified" to delete placeholders left behind when I move something so there is no need to tag it. However, I like to leave them up for a while in case the original poster comes looking for it.
Thanks,
Laura

So I've deleted the majority of the threads that were tagged. There were a few in the Idea Exchanges that did not get re-posted so I am not comfortable deleting them at this time. Instead, I expect to move them into an archived type status as soon as we add it. Todd is still working on the strategy for archiving ideas.
Thanks,
Laura
