User search oddities

I don't quite understand the user search algorithm. It seems to miss certain partial queries.

Look at the following user searches as an example:

  1. "Dennis" 69 matches (OK)
  2. "Dennis K" 0 matches (???)
  3. "Dennis Kn" 0 matches (???)
  4. "Dennis Knu": 3 matches (OK)

What happened in case 2&3??

Yeah, that's a little strange.  I've passed it along to Lithium.

That's normal behaviour of search engines. One and two letter words are normally ignored even in phrases.

That may be true in general, but it's not what's specifically happening here. If you search for "de", for example, you will get results. It's only when you have 2 words, and one of them is less than 3 letters.
