Laura,
Crazy idea time (again).
Would it be possible to send out e-mail requests to those that have started threads to ask them to check back and mark the solutions to their old Q's?
If 1% of the people responded we could get about 5000 solutions accepted.

I like the idea, but I wonder about the "SPAM" factor. Is there a way we could do this? What about giving selected users the ability to mark obvious solutions? I think you mentioned this earlier Ben.
Thanks,
Laura

Whatever would be easier to implement. If you can get Lithium to open that up to us great.
RE: Spam factor
After two weeks of idle time send out an e-mail saying "If your problem is solved please mark the solution that helped you so others can benefir from your experience."
For the legacy Q's, start working backwards in time maybe a week at a time, just incase everyone complies at the same time. We have a pile of knowledgte buried in our forum and it still takes an experienced user to find the previous solutions. Getting a handle on what we have already would take the forums up yet another notch.

That's always a tricky one. It probably should be limited to threads where the thread originator has an actual subscription. There also must be a profile option to not receive these reminders.
The reminder message must have a clear and friendly explanation why the message got sent and a link to the profile page with instruction to stop further such messages.
So:
Another idea:
How about a profile page that contains a list of "unsolved" threads by that author? Next time he logs into the forums there could be a reminder line on top of the forum page, e.g. as follows:
You have XX unsolved questions (link). See if any of the replies can be designated as "accepted solution".
For symmetry, there should also be another tag that would be available for any thread that is still unsolved and where the autor is still looking for an answer. If a thread does not have an accepted solution AND has been idle for a xx days, there should a an option to mark the thread as "still unsolved" or "still awaiting a solution", or similar. If the author would press this (nobody else can!), the thread would be bumped and flagged as such (e.g. with a red tag similar to the green "accepted" tag).

WOW!
Forget (most of) everything I said and let me throw my weight behind Christian's outline.
Please let us know when Lithium will have those changes in place.

I also think altenbach has great ideas and I am going to pass them along to Lithium.
It's not too difficult for me to allow certain users to mark solutions. Of course, they would need to be well qualified and want to have this privilege!
Thanks,
Laura

Merci d'avance
