search and find 'open' threads: request of advanced search features

Solved!
Go to solution

Hello,

time is passing by quickly... Hence it happens that some threads I have started with a question / problem are still open, waiting for some further investigation etc.

However, after a few days the post has disappeared from the first forum page - and soon thereafter from my memory. All I remember is that there were a few open threads Smiley Wink

So here is my question / suggestion for the forum: A feature to list all threads I have started but not marked as solved would be quite handy in such cases... Phrased differently, I'd like to have an advanced search capability where one can not only search for a given word, but also for certain metadata such as author, solved/unsolved, etc.

Thanks and have a nice day,

Wolfgang

There is already an advanced search which does have these basic filters (although not exactly as you want, because it only allows to filter on solved or all and because the results are displayed as replies, not as threads). The main problem today is that the advanced search is hidden - you can only see the link for it after you perform a standard search. It then appears at the top of the results page, near the search box.

Thanks, tst, but as you concur there is no chance to find the open, unsolved threads - only solved ones... I don't mind to first use regular search, but even the advanced options don't resolve my request...

Thanks!

I have to admit that I did not try this particular option, but actually I was not looking for threads without any reply. Usually, there are a few replies on my questions with suggestions, but in some cases due to more urging projects I didn't try all of them yet; in these cases my answer/summary is still pending; I want to have a list of these pending answers/solutions...

Ah, I see what you are trying to get to now. I'm not sure, but I think we may have asked for this before.

Hi Wolfgang,

You're right - there's not an easy way to do this right now.  I have a few ideas about how you could go about finding open threads that have not been solved yet:

1. Bookmark the new threads and then remove the bookmarks once the thread is solved.  You can get quickly to bookmarked threads in the "Go To" menu in the upper right of the page.  You can manage bookmarks in My Settings > Subscriptions & Bookmarks.

2. Tag the thread with something that you'll remember.  Get back to those threads through your tag cloud on your profile page.  You can delete your own tags once the thread has been solved.

I'll submit your search idea to our vendor for consideration.

Thanks,

Laura

Thanks, Laura, for forwarding the suggestion!

I thought about using bookmarks and tags, too, but eventually was too lazy for this bookkeeping... Using the search button once a month seemed easier to me Smiley Wink

I agree, searching definitely seems easier Smiley Happy

Thanks again for the feedback!
