Can I connect the RS-485 port of a FP-1000 to a computer?

Can I connect the RS-485 port of a FP-1000 to a computer rather than the RS-232 port?   The manual suggests the RS-485 port of the FP-1000 is a repeater port. If this isn't the right message board please feel free to move it.
