FP1000 Modules not found from Fieldpoint explorer

I have three FP-1000 modules that have been on the shelf for ~1 yr. They were functioning when stored. Now when I hook them up (1 at a time) to Fieldpoint Explorer, it reports no modules found. The Power light is on, when searching for devices, the Network light flickers, and the status light is never on. Any suggestions?

A common reason for this type of behavior is if the FP-1000 is configured for a different Baud Rate than you have set in FieldPoint Explorer.

We have verified the correct baud rate. Even have tried lowering baud rate on the module and Fieldpoint explorer.

PMW@RPT,

Make sure you are using the correct RS-232 cable (male-to-female, not null modem) and the cable is less than 50ft in length. Just like Aaron mentioned, make sure the baud rates match between the dip switches on the FP-1000 and FieldPoint Explorer. Also make sure you are using the correct COM port. If none of this seems to solve the problem try updating the firmware of the FP-1000.

Thank you for your suggestions. I have verified cable and dip switch setting. I can see other FP-1000's using this cable and COM port. I can't get the firmware to upgrade since the module cannot be found.

PMW@RPT,

Do you have any of the FP-1000s working? Have you tried connecting to them from a different computer? What version of NI-FieldPoint are you using? You may want to try upgrading to the most recent version to see if that helps. It is a free download at:

I have 2 working FP-1000's, and have connected to two other computers. I am using Fieldpoint 3.02 build 177.

Try taking a look at the DB-9 connector to make sure the pins look okay on the units that you are having trouble with. Beyond that, with several working FP-1000's and one or two that do not work under with the same DIP switch settings and cables, I would recommend that you contact National Instruments for a RMA number for the units that can not be found.
