FP2000 ethernet

Dear all, and especially dear Aaron,

Thnak for your answer, but unfortunately it doesn't answer really to my problem, in fact I think my question was not clear enough.
What we want to do is to work on a Fp2000 and I/O modules bank via ethernet from our office location to private houses. In the houses each Fp2000 will be plugged to ethernet via a router only dedicated to it.
Tests we have already performed have shown that we can see the FP2000 with telnet, ftp, we can switch execution target but when we want to detect the fp2000 with fieldpoint explorer we need to specify the router adress, fp explorer detects the FP2000 but can't do more... no way to see the modules or even to fid devices plugged to it.

What are supposed to be the different step
s to detect and configure the fp bank ? What is strange is that fp explorer obtains the serial number of the fp2000, but when we select it in order to find device attached to it nothing work...

Thank for your help.

Regards to every one

Grisel,

The way the browse functionality works is through broadcast UDP. Broadcast messages will only propogate through a local subnet and will get blocked by a router. This is why you are unable to browse to the module. However, by knowing the IP address, you are still able to remotely communicate with the module as you have found. Once you have typed in the IP (Tools >> Device Location), you should have full configuration access to the FP-20xx, as well as the ability to find and configure the I/O. The fact that you are having trouble with the Find Devices command generally indicates one of two things. First, a Find Devices will almost always fail if you have two FP-2000's or an FP-2000 and a computer with the same IP address. Second, if the IA Control enviro
nement has not successfully launched, the I/O modules will not be online or configurable (IA Control environement does not handle FP-2000 Ethernet configuration). To see if this is the case, you can look at the Ready LED's on the modules. If the IA Control Environment is not coming up properly, re-install the firmware of the FP-2000.

Eric,

Another option may be the router configuration especially if it has a built-in firewall. Please read the following article on configuring firewalls for use with National Instruments Logos ethernet network protocol. The document is targetted at Lookout and LabVIEW DataLogging and Supervisory Control customers, but the FieldPoint Ethernet modules also use the same protocol so the information is applicable.
