FieldPoint Open Thermocouple Readings

Have been using FieldPoint FP-1000 and Thermocouple (FP-TC-120) modules for temperature monitoring application.  Usually, if there is an open thermocouple, my lab view application returns "3220" and if there is a serial communication problem, I get "0". 

I am testing out a new module with no thermocouples attached and have been reading "3220", BUT with intermittent readings of "0". 

Is there a communications problem between the module and the computer, or is this just something that I just never noticed in the past?

Is this value an error code, or is it what you get out of the FieldPoint Read VI? Also, is this a new module only, or is it also a new controller?
