National Instruments Ethernet protocol

Hello,

I am developing a software package that is using the NI Field Point Ethernet device. It is a large hardware device and I have been asked to develop a simulator. In order to do this, I need to simulate the Field point devices. Does anyone know if the Ethernet protocol is simply the Optomux protocol wrapped in a UDP/IP message, or is it something else? Is the protocol documented somewhere? I have searched, but have not been able to find a document.

Thank you,
Mark

Mark,

The FieldPoint ethernet modules use a custom, proprietary NI protocol called Logos. There is no publicly available documentation on the protocol.

Hi,

We use OPC to communicate with our hardware and this allows us to use an OPC simulator allowing us to change "input signals" in real time via a windows application running on the PC. The main application does not ned to be re-compiled or anything. It does not know or care where the values are coming from.

Hope  this helps!

Tony
