There is built-in redundancy at some of the levels that you have mentioned.
1. At the I/O level there are built-in watch dogs that will set the lines to a default level if a system crash or error occurs.
2. At the CPU the watch dog timers will also help determine if the CPU has hung or encountered a problem and will react as you have configured them.
3. At the power supply level, you have the option of connecting, a second, backup power supply in parallel with your dedicated power supply. The network controller has multiple power connections that allow this to be done. Users commonly connect a battery to this backup power supply connector.
