Serial Communication Problems

I have just bought a new dell laptop which was missing a serial port. I then had a serial I/O card installed(socket in make). Windows XP home edition is the operating system. When i try to find a device on Fieldpoint Explorer i sometimes get a message "Cannot Bind To Port". Othertimes it scans for devices and finds no module even though the baud rates are set the same and the module is connected. Only once I got it to work from LabView with about a two second delay in recieving the input on screen. Any help will be hugely appreciated.

One suggestion would be to upgrade to FP 4.0 or later. There have been many improvements in Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX) versus FieldPoint Explorer.

The "Cannot Bind To Port" message usually means that something else has already reserved the COM port. Make sure that you have only one application open that is accessing the COM port at a time.
