communication failure FP-1000 module with serial connection

Hello,

I am trying to set up a measurement system using Fieldpoint modules connected to an FP-1000 module which should communicate with my host-computer (Windows XP SP2) via a serial port (COM2). The FP-1000 module however keeps giving the communication error: 'The device is offline. Make sure the device is connected and its power is on.' When I run the Labview (version 8.0) VI, which I made for this system, I get the error message -33811 which indicates a communication error. Ofcoarse I checked the communication error message and many other things, like the serial RS232 cable, the baudrate, the network address, the settings of the COM-port on the computer. Nothing helped in solving the problem. When I connect the FP-1000 bank to a power supply, the status light on the module flashes one time. According to the manual this indicates an incorrect network address. I however only use one FP-1000 bank having 0 as network address. This address also corresponds to the address given in the 'Measurement and Automation Explorer'. What could cause this communication error?

Thank you in advance,
Martin

Hi!

Just find your FP 1000 in NI MAX at Ports. When you configure your FP in LabVIEW, give resource as FP@COM1 (Give your com port) and try.

Or give me code or message picture.

Hi,

I'm having the same problem with error -33811.  When I initially hooked up my fieldpoint bank it wouldn't work until I switched it around to a different port, but at least then it worked.  Now, whenever I try to run it I get error -33811 and my FP1000 network module never has the network LED lit anymore.  I've attached 3 images:  1 of them is a MAX screenshot showing that everything is listed, the second one is showing how thermocouple readings are still getting through(even w/ no network light on the FP1000),  and the third is the block diagram for the labview program. One thing that it might be is the fact that I'm using a serial to USB connector and then connecting to an USB port.  Under the Device manager in the Windows Control Panel, it has "Prolifi USB-to-Seriall Comm Port (COM6)" listed.  Is this perhaps the other thing that is "using the port"?  Any guidance would be appreciated because I'm kind of stumped on this one.

Thanks,

-Troy

I answered my own question 🙂  Having the MAX open and the labview files running didn't work out b/c both the labview and the MAX program are trying to access the devices.

Thanks, and this might help others as well.
