error in the registries, 4-20mA

We had the problem again late today. It generated error code -33156, "FieldPoint: The device is offline. Make sure the device is connected and its power is on." I set up the code to read a 4-20 mA dual input module in the same TB-10 immediately following the error and it returned 0.00 which would indicate to me that the TB-10 base glitched. I agree that the next step will be to swap TB-10s and see if that causes the error to move systems. Hopefully I will be able to do the switch tomorrow. It's kind of weird that I would have 1 good TB-10 and 2 bad ones. I'll also compare S/Ns or dates if I can find them.

I also have a dual channel FP-RTD-PT100-3 plugged into the same TB-10. I had a hard time getting these to work (be recognized when plugged in) on the two systems that I'm now having trouble with, but not on the third system. Maybe this is related? I tried plugging and upnplugging one of these, but that didn't replicate the problem, so I guess I'm back to the TB-10.

I will continue to post as I have updates.

Thanks again,

James

OK, I finally have more data. I switched the TB-10 bases back in December, and both were stable for a week or two, but then the problem followed the base. About a week ago, a new failure mode occurred. The TB-10 just sat there and the lights blinked as follows: (1) Power on (2) Ready on (3) both off. This happened indefinitely until I wiggled things and whatever was intermittent was restored. It happened again today, and I was able to isolate the problem to the connector on the left side of the TB-10 (sockets) that ties it into the FieldPoint Bus. I have pushed the modules together numerous times, so I'm sure they are secure.

I'm assuming at this point that there is a problem with this connector, and I've applied ProGold, a lubricant/conditioner I've used before, to one of the malfunctioning systems. We'll see if this helps. I guess the next step will be bending the connector pins a little to try to make better contact. More updates soon.

I have some more data now. The ProGold didn't help. The problem is definitely tied to the TB-10 bases. Today we installed a fourth system and it glitched the same way. One of the dual-channel modules was loose however, so I'm going to wait to see what happens before I say for sure. Right now, the score is two "bad" TB-10s one "good" TB-10, and one questionable.

Anyone with any more ideas, please respond. Mikel, how did you resolve your problem?

Thanks,

James

Hi,

If you feel that your new TB10s are broken, then I would suggest calling NI directly at 1-866-275-6964. They can set you up with a service request and have the defective device fixed if necessary.
