how to connect AI 110 to LVDT displacement transducer

We want to connect a LVDT displacement transducer to FP AI 110. In the operating instructions of the FP AI 110 we must connect Vin, Iin, V sup and COM to the transducer. The transducer has four wires with the symbols V out, 0 VE, + VE and - VE. We want to know which wire we must connect to which terminal.

The FP-AI-110 module can not be used to measure an LVDT transducer. LVDT transducers require AC excitation and provide an AC output (see http://www.ni.com/sensors/lvdt.htm for basics of LVDT sensor operation). The FP-AI-110 module (and the FP-AI-100, FP-AI-102) are designed for DC voltage measurement, not AC as required for use with an LVDT. To my knowledge, the SCXI-1540 is the only National Instruments product directly designed for use with LVDT sensors. Alternatively, some companies make LVDT to DC voltage converters that could be used in between the FP-AI-110 and the LVDT.

Aaron,

Thank you for your answer. We have to look for convertors, because we now only use the fieldpoint system. Someone from NI told us that another solution is to look for displacement transducers that deliver a DC current.
