refnum on fieldpoint

Hi All,
I'm trying to use  some refnums to controls in a FieldPoint application, when used on PC, all works fine, when I change to remote target, debugging says "not a refnum" (See attachment).

Am I allowed to use refnums on FieldPoint? I know about restrictions on FieldPoint, but the use of refnums is not listed.... or maybe I am missing something?

Control references do not work on RT targets.

Hi TST!
It should not be true, since with references I've changed the label of LEDs.   What I can't control is color in LEDs clustered, and it's quite a problem, since I strongly use this method in a program I should adapt for FieldPoint....

I'll check better what I can do and what I can't but I don't think references does not work at all in RT targets.

One source of problem can be: I use probes, to check refnums, and on Windows they work fine, telling me also where the owner VI is located, but if I deploy application on RT target.... what appens?

   Waiting.... anyway, thanks for interest!

Hi!
   I've checked, just see attachedpicture.

The other stuff that doesn't work, is set value: when I try to light a LED, it doesn't work.   Actually this is the major problem.

It's been a long time since I used RT (in fact, I only saw your post to the LV board), but this is what I was basing this on.

Uhm..... I can assure you that my VI works, in some parts.... why this? Who knows.....

Anyway, thank you for spending time trying to help me! If you and Ben say that it is not possible... only NI people can say the last word!

   Have a nice day!

Don't trust me on this! I actually also seem to remember using some control property nodes on RT targets.

I think the concept is that there is no full support for refs, i.e. somethings might work, but you won't get any gurantees.

I see Smiley Sad

I've asket NI support to clearify this, to know exactly what is supported, and I  hope next versions of FP will fully support references.  I'll report if I get an answer.

Thanks again for interesting, have a nice day!

Dear Graziano,

As Far as I know using refnums of front panel object in a real time application is a very bad idea.

My labview knowledge is surely less than Ben's or Tst's  who started working with labview when I was a child. I totally agree with them.

Summing up don't use Front Panel refnums in Real Time application. Actually you should not need them since a real time application should work properly without a Front Panel.

Hope this helps.

Best Regards

Hi FiloP,
I agree with you about RT and refnums, I should avoid front panels on RT systems, and so on... okay!

I've been working on embedded RT design with LabView and FieldPoint from 2 years, I gained a good practice, and things works quite fine.

Now, I'm developing a small application that has to be used by maintenance people, when plants are in a safe state (in maintenance, they cannot create harmful conditions), and it doesn't really need to be Real-Time.

The only particular thing is cFP-2020 controllers are RT, and embedd a standalone application, that is overriden when maintenance people attach to cFP through network cable, locally, and with LV on laptop, they "control" cFP with my test application.

I've already done such an application, now my aim is to create a more maintainable one, and perhaps scalable app, and more "stylish"Smiley Happy

Sorry for being so long in explaining, maybe this can help clearify the scenario!

   have all a nice week-end!
