Ciao Alessandro,
Why am I unable to format my PXI-RT controller from a Desktop PC Utility USB Drive?
I need to format my PXI-RT controller but I cannot do it from Measurement & Automation Explorer. Thus, I created a Desktop PC
Utility USB Drive and configured the BIOS to boot the controller from the USB drive, as indicated in Knowledge Base 355F5URA (linked in Related Links section) and in my controller's user manual.
However, the PXI controller continues to boot in safe mode and the formatting is not performed.
In order to boot the PXI-RT controller from the Desktop PC Utility USB Drive, which gives you the possibility to format the hard drive, you have also to set to boot "Windows/Other OS" in BIOS.
To summarize, you need to do the following settings in the BIOS of the PXI controller:
- in Boot Setup Menu, move the item corresponding to the USB drive to the first position;
- in Advanced Setup Menu, under Integrated Peripherals setting, navigate to the "Legacy USB Support" option and ensure it is Enabled;
- in LabVIEW RT Options Setup Menu, set Winodws/Other OS as Boot Configuration.
Then you have to exit the BIOS, saving the changes you made. After that, the controller should boot from the USB drive and the Desktop PC
Utility USB Drive menù should appear: to format the controller hard drive, select Format Hard disk.
For detailed instructions on BIOS setup, reference your PXI controller's user manual.
