Conflict between PCI-1424 and PC video card?

 All,

I have recently received two PCI 1424 cards and have verified they are in working order. However, after short while there will be no video on the monitor when using PC for other functions. I swapped slots for the video card and it worked for a while. IT swapped computers and I get the same results. After pulling the PCI-1424, normal operation of the computer has been restored. My OS is Windows XP Pro and the cards are a 2004 vintage. Is there a known conflict between video systems of the PCI & PC?

Cheers,

Ron Scott

Hi Ron,

In general, there are no known conflict between the PC 1424 and the PC video card. However, here are some things to try:

  • Your video card and 1424 may be trying to get the same IRQ. If this is the case, try changing the IRQ of your video card. You can try changing the IRQ of your video card by going to BIOS settings of your computer (hit F1 or DEL when computer is booting up) or in the Device Manager.

  • It is also possible that your computer's power supply is not supplying enough power for both the video card and the 1424. If you have other PCI cards installed, try taking all of them out except the 1424, and see if this solves the issue.

  • In the BIOS, make sure PCI Bus Mastering is ON, and make sure Plug and Play is enabled.

  • If none of the above seem to help, the card itself may be defective.

I did not get the chance to apply the suggestions. Our solution was to dig up an older computer and install the framegrabber. It seems to work so far. When I get some spare time I will return to the new PC and try your suggestions.
