Pixie-4 from XIA: can I use it with MXI link?

Solved!
Go to solution

Dear colleagues!

Please advice me can I use digital spectrometer Pixie-4 (from XIA manufacturer) with MXI link if I know that exists a special software kit for LabVIEW 8.5 ?      This kit has tested only on 8174 embedded plc and no having test with MXI link.

I've heard somewhere if the software kit supports LabVIEW 8.5 then MXI link also will work.

Current 93,

The way that MXI works is that it essentially expands your PC's PCI/PCIe bus to allow additional devices to work on it. Since this is a third-party instrument, we cannot make any guarantee's regarding the reliability of their products in certain systems. There are some third-party products that cannot handle 64-bit operating systems, as well as certain computer manufacturers that cannot handle PCI bridge expansion and this should be taken into consideration when deciding to use a MXI card in your PXI chassis. However, I believe that as long as your Pixie-4 device from XIA is compatible with the version of Windows and any software on that machine, then it should not cause any problems with bootup and operation. The devices may also not appear in Measurement and Automation Explorer as they are third party devices, however if you have software installed on the PXI 8184 controller, then the same software should work on the desktop PC that uses the MXI card as the same data that is being accessed by the 8174, would be accessed by the MXI card.

Thank you Frank, recently I've received an answer from XIA that they have used Pixie-4 with NI MXI link.
